Maximizing Nickel and Cobalt Recovery from Battery Waste using Solvent Extraction

Battery recycling is a multi-step process that includes mechanical, pyrometallurgical, and hydrometallurgical processes.   OLI has worked the past sixteen months to create the chemistry needed to simulate black mass conversion into pure feedstocks. Specific work includes expanded chemical speciation of nickel, manganese, cobalt, and lithium in strong acid systems, sequestration agents like ammonia, and complexes for solvent extraction.

 

In this Spotlight Seminar, we introduce the expanded chemistry, notably solvent extraction, and explore how these advancements can be leveraged in hydrometallurgical processes to optimize energy requirements, chemical reagent demand, and product quality and recovery. We will also discuss how our future developments aim to keep pace with the evolving battery industry.
